Mark Henslee titled, “God Teaches How to ‘See’ Rightly.” The scripture for this sermon comes from I Samuel 15:34-16:13.The Rev. Henslee writes: “This introduction story to the major figure of the Older Testament, David, tells how God had the prophet Samuel anoint the you shepherd to be King of Israel. The story for us readers becomes an exercise in seeing rightly or clearly.Point of the passage:God does not see as humans see.Our image-obsessed and saturated culture has separated substance from appearance with horrendous consequences. We need to stop and carefully assess values we claim, intentions behind our words and deeds, and consequences upon others if, especially, we go apart from God’s sure guidance. When God’s intentions are revealed, our obedience is required.God’s love is purposed.”

The Scripturesfor Sunday, June 23, the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, are Job 38:1-11; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; and Mark 4:35-41.In his anguish and affliction, Job must be reminded that, as a finite creature, he is in no position to questionthe Maker of the heavens and the earth.Job's plea, "Let the Almighty answer me" (31:35) are "words without knowledge" and are unable to penetrate the wisdom of the Lord. With sarcastic questions, the Lord shows Job how little he knows. All is under the Lord's control, as Job had acknowledged earlier (12:13). Understanding (v 4) comes only from the One who is Wisdom Himself, the Word who was with God and who was God (John 1:1) at creation. We can trust theLord who cares for our every need.
